A charming little village, Ballinspittle quickly became known in the summer of 1985 as a carved out of the hillside approx 90 feet above the road is a grotto containing a statue of the Virgin Mary. Is is said that at dusk one evening a local girl was passing by it and apparantly saw the statue rocking back and forth.
