Galway Airport Directions: We have provided here a driving route from Galway airport to Galway city: From Galway airport take the R339 / N6 road to Galway city, the N18 northbound / N17 leads towards Co.Mayo and the NW of Ireland, the N18 southbound takes you towards Ennis and Co.Clare.
Car hire popularity: Car rental in Galway is popular and vehicles do become booked up very quickly due to the airport location. Car hire in the Galway area is very popular during peak times and holiday periods and we would highly recommend booking your rental well in advance.
Galway location: Like we have said in the write-up about Galway on this page there is a lot to see in the Galway and Co.Galway area so it would be a good idea to plan a few days touring around the Galway area and having quite a bit of photo film handy.

More places of interest in and around Galway & continuation of our Co.Galway tour:

Tully Cross: Located approx 7 miles N of Letterfrack on a minor road off the N59 road..
Located on the 'Renvyle Peninsula' this location has often been described as 'The loveliest landscape on earth' which is bound by the famous 'Twelve Bens' mountain range also the Atlantic and Killary Fjord, the isolation of the location has certainly spared Renvyle from the mondernisation of other locations. It is worth certainly the trip to come visit here and remember to bring your camera, a quiet and peaceful location a respect for the surroundings is certainly needed here.
We would recommend approx: >> Half day stay.

Renvyle: Located approx 11 miles NW of Letterfrack on the N59 road.
Not really a location for tourism from our perspective and we would really only say passing through here to take photos if you would like on continuation of the tour is about the best bet, as other locations further on in our tour probably require more of an attention, but Renvyle is worth a stop over.
We would recommend approx: >> Stop over en route.

Clifden: Located approx 11 miles S of Letterfrack on the N59 road.
Clifden is the main town in Connemara, the town is beautifully set on the edge of the Atlantic and has a magnificent backdrop view of the 'Twelve Bens' mountain range. The town is the centre for the famous Connemara pony breeding and the annual Connemara Pony Show held on the third Thursday in August. If you would like to venture out of Clifden for a few hours then take a trip to the seaside village of Cleggan which is located approx 6 miles NW of Clifden which is a departure point for a 30 or so minute trip to Inishbofin Island a trip in which your boat is likely to be accompanied by the locals of Seals and or Dolphins, a full commentary is provided during the trip and there are guided walks available for exploring the island and it's sandy beaches. The island itself is very small approx 4 miles long and about 2 miles wide, it has a weatlth of historical sites and is definately well worth the trip from Clifden to come here.
We would recommend approx: >> Atleast a full day stay.

Ballyconneely: Located approx 7 miles S of Clifden on the R341 road.
This location is situated on the coastal road around the southwest corner of Connemara, The village of Ballyconneely is close to 'Mannin Bay' which is a broad inlet noted for it's apparant coral strand, which is actually not coral but instead debris of seaweed that dries and disintegrates into something that looks kind of like white sand.
We would recommend approx: >> A stop over en route.

Roundstone: Located approx 16 miles SE of Clifden on the R341 road.
The beautiful little location of Roundstone is a charming little fishing village that sits right at the foot of the Erinsberg Mountain. If you plan on walking up to the top of the mountain it might well be worth the effort as the walk is fairly undemanding to see the wonderful views from the top of the Mountain, a great tranquil location to visit for a day out and a great photo opportunity!
We would recommend approx:>>Atleast half day stay.

Cashel: Located approx 20 miles SE of Clifden on the R342 road.
Another location you could visit whilst in Clifden is the town of Cashel, not to be confused with the town of same name in Co.Tipperary, but Galway's Cashel, which is a popular angling town, but perhaps more importantly tourism wise it is where; ' Bertraghboy Bay' is and this is a great location to have the opportunity to see Common Seals in their breeding ground, and the Seals can often be seen basking in the sun on the rocky shoreline here. If you go further out you may also be able to catch a glimpse of Dolphins and Porpoises of which both are regular sightings in the area!
We would recommend approx: >> Half day stay.

Recess: Located approx 20 miles E of Clifden on the N59 road.
The location of Recess is definatley one of Connemara's most famous beauty locations and is also where we continue on our Co.Galway tour. The town of Recess is beautiful set amoungst wonderful lake and mountain surroundings it has both the Glendalough lake one side and the Derryclare lough on the other and as we continue now further East our tour will pass some of Connemara's best scenery including Lough Oorid, Lough Shindilla, and the Maamturk Mountains as we finish our tour.
We would recommend approx: >> Half day stay.
