More places of interest in and around Galway:

Now that we have finished our tour of Co.Galway we still have three locations we think might be of interest to you so we have included them below.

Oranmore: Located approx 5 miles E of Galway on the N6 road.
Oranmore is a nice and picturesque little town located on the shore of Galway bay, the south of the city often known as 'oyster country' which is the main focus of the famed 'Galway international Oyster festival' which usually takes place late September. If you plan to visit Oranmore then perhaps a more fitting reason to visit would be for 'Rinville Forest Park' which is an attractive amenity open all year, the park is well worth visiting for a day out and picnic. It has an extensive amount of walks and many woodland trails, open farms with some fine views of Galway bay, the city of Galway and also the Burren of Co.Clare can also be seen. It is a great location for families as there are picnic areas available, a children's play area, a coffee shop is also available which is usually open in the summer season, this is a decent location for a day out.
We would recommend approx: >> Half day stay.

Kinvara: Located approx 20 miles SW of Galway on the N67 road.
A popular location for day visitors from Galway, Kinvara is beautifully set on an inlet of Galway bay. A nice quayside village it overlooks 'Dunguaire Castle' which is a definate photo opportunity. A good location to come and spend some time taking photos of the sights, just remember not to forget your camera!
We would recommend approx: >> Half day stay.

Athenry: Located approx 16 miles E of Galway on the R348 / R347 road(s).
Surely any visit to Galway wouldn't be complete without a trip to the famed 'Athenry'. The town famous by the poem 'The fields of Athenry' the town is actually a marvellous medieval heritage location and has an unmatched wealth of remains from the middle ages. The Athenry Heritage Centre is a great focal point to discover this location and well worth a visit, for us a few hours spent here will be time well spent, although may be longer is required if you plan to discover all the Athenry has to offer.
We would recommend approx: >> Half day stay.

If you plan to visit Portumna in Co.Galway you can see our write-up of Portumna located here. We hope that you will find the information and our tour provided here useful to you in your discoveries of Ireland.
