Places of interest in or around Co.Clare (Shannon area):
Quin: Located approx 7 miles
SE of Ennis on the R469 road.
Located here is “Quin Abbey” which is a well preserved 15th century Franciscan Friary set in beautiful surroundings. Moreover close by is “Craggaunowen castle” which is a fortified tower house built in 1550 and was restored in 1975, inside there are impressive collections of 16th century european wood carvings, however maybe more impressive are the reconstructions of ancient Irish homes and farmsteads in the surrounding grounds.
We would recommend approx: >> Full day stay.
Bunratty: Located approx 16 miles
SE of Ennis on the N18 road.
The village overlooks Ireland's greatest river, the Shannon, which at approx 240 miles it is also the longest in the British isles. About 2 miles east of Shannon is “Bunratty castle” which stands on what once was an island and is well worth a visit and photo opportunity.
